CHRISTMAS CAROLING IN THE VILLAGE!

This was a delightful and not-too-chilly evening for all of us. Hannah and 'T' attempted to track us and nearly got busted by Zac, who took a detour. We got to sing to some people we knew, which was fun... The Hellands and Carol and Mel were some of our audience.

(Yep, Joel and I got laughed at for being the only ones who'd never gone caroling before. That's what happens when you live way back up in the country.)

Hannah and Carol are intent on a chess game. Dallas is goofing off. (I think)

Meanwhile, Brandon attempts to teach Hans and I how to play a game very similar to Settlers of Catan, and Nairobi looks on, offering encouragement and trying to perfect his Swahili greetings. :)

-A turtle named Charlotte lived with us for a day and participated in listening to the Bible reading

-I went to the State Fair with some others while Hannah was home on fall break

-I actually played ultimate frisbee (surprise, surprise)

-The boys visited us!

-We had a square dance (gasp! dancing's not normally allowed :)

-We went to a fancy Wycliffe Banquet

-Some people got pies thrown in their faces

The mornings chilly drizzle disheartened me so much I decided not to go to the market. I think I missed a wonder though because everyone is telling me that it snowed! First snow of the year on this day of all days, October 1st. What a sight it was they tell me! What a sheet of white they saw! Huge fluffy snowflakes heralding the fall! And somehow I missed it all.

This is the perfect day to snuggle up in a cozy chair with a good book and a steaming cup of tea.

Yes.

Actually, I am.

My sense of direction is something of a wonder. How could someone possibly be so utterly and completely turned around on there own street. It happens.

Three days ago, at five thirty-seven, five adventurous souls set out about half an hour after the intended departure time. We sped down the mountain taking the turns like a genuine high speed rockin' roller-coaster.

Our destination: Union Mills, NC.

Where we ended up: Shelby, NC.

Sweet, deceptive, crime ridden Shelby. How's that? We never made a turn? True. We just stayed straight the whole way down the mountain, never looking to the left or to the right. Yep, we missed our turn.

It wasn't until we were almost in Shelby that we discovered our mistake. Poor Union Mills was deprived of our company for a few hours while we blew time in Boiling Springs, filling our empty tummies with Greek food, while Ashely met up with her old college buddy for dinner. The Greek restaurant was... well, Greek. We didn't even need to imagine My Big Fat Greek Wedding, all the drama was right there. One sister, in a very loud, bossy fashion, was advising her brother (who was thwarted in love) to just, "Get over her!" and the Dad raising his voice above the rest, "One day she says, 'I'm going to the prom.' and today she says, 'I'm NOT going.' What is this!?" Hands held high above his head in utter bewilderment. We were left with the classic mother moment at the register, "That's what happens when you're around people all day..." Perfect.

We were on our way again full and brimming with funny memories.

Would someone else like to continue this rather bumpy narrative? If not, I'll get back to it later.

Tuareg, Arabized of Niger
"Arabized" Tuareg are those who have adopted the Arabic language as their own. At least to this extent, they have become a part of Arab culture. Before French colonization, the Tuareg were organized into loose confederations, each consisting of a dozen or so tribes. Following the independence of African countries in the 1960s, Tuareg territory was artificially divided into modern nations: Niger, Mali, Algeria, Libya, and Burkina Faso. Each Tuareg clan is made up of several family groups, led by their collective chiefs.

Ministry Obstacles
The Tuareg tribes have strong tribal identity, and Islam is part of that self-identification.

Outreach Ideas
Perhaps African believers will be burdened to carry the message of Christ to the Tuareg tribes. Pray that tribal animosities will be overcome.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the followers of Jesus that will soon come forth from the Tuareg tribes: that the Lord will send qualified pastors and teachers, that they will be zealous to follow Christ, and they will live holy lives in the power of the Lord's Spirit.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Tuareg tribes of Africa, that they will increasingly desire to know Jesus, the Son of God, deity. Pray He will reveal Himself to them, and will send Christians to help them.

Quick update:
Outpost #4 - Aunt Rebecca and Hannah have been galivanting in Rome, Florence, Paris, the Swiss Alps, Germany, London etc. for the past week or so, having the time of their lives I'm sure.

Outpost #3 - Rachel stayed with us (the JB's) and we had a very lovely time. Late nights, trying on dresses, watching movies... you get the idea.

Outpost #2 - The Frank Barrys (minus Rachel) went up to check out St. John's last weekend. Decided against it I believe. Maybe David will go to NSA!

Outpost #1 - Aunt Elizabeth and Thomas attended the wedding in Prague and then headed back to Pittsburgh. I'm sure they had a great trip though I haven't heard much from Tom lately.

HQ - Grandmother could use everybody's prayers, seeing as she is still not feeling very well.

Maybe someone will read this maybe not, but I think that's all I have to say.
